This is Sheila's latest painting. The background represents all the stresses and chaos a woman goes through in life.
So far, 2,486 views. Not bad. I am looking into converting my book into Kindle, Nook, and Apple. Will let you know when it is ready. I invite you to post your comments and questions here. I'll be happy to hear from you. ![]() Fluidity, acrylic on canvas, by Sheila May Advento Sheila has taken up painting (acrylic) and has done several pieces. I love her latest one, Fluidity. From afar, it looks like an abstract piece but on closer look, you can see a face framed by long curly hair. That the painting was done only in two colors makes it all the more interesting. I thought I'd share old posts from my old blog: October 2009: I heard from a mother who lost her son to meningococcemia. I quote her below: "As a mother who lost her son to meningococcemia (meningococcal meningitis), I urge all parents to be aware of the symptoms of meningitis and the available vaccine. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommends routine vaccination for all children ages 11-18 at the earliest possible time and for all college freshmen living in dorms. Please visit the non-profit National Meningitis Association (www.nmaus.org) for more information. No family should endure this tragedy." December 2009: I heard from Hanna Latvus, a reader from Finland who contracted meningococcemia in 2008. After months of surgery and with her prosthetics, she has resumed her life, got married and is pursuing a new career in accounting which will allow her to work from home. She found my book on the internet and told me how it made her feel good to hear about some similarities between her and Sheila's experience. Just to let you know that I have a new website for my artwork (converted by webbrewers.com from an Office Live Small Business website to a WordPress site). I am very pleased with it! Please check it out: Upon invitation of Dr. Vijay Gorantla of UPMC, Sheila made a presentation at the McGowan Institute Scientific Retreat held at Nemacolin Woodlands Resort in Farmington, PA. Someone from the audience told her that she just bought the last copy of A Life Reclaimed from Amazon and that it was sold out. This is a gimmick practiced by most booksellers. To ensure getting a copy, please order from Booklocker through this link: http://www.booklocker.com/books/4311.html Sheila's and Dan Foust's powerpoint presentations on February 2nd were a success! Dan started with his description of the hand transplant program at UPMC, followed by Sheila's segment of the Life-Changing Medicine video by Discovery Channel, and finally, Sheila's presentation of her experiences from surviving meningococcemia to her bilateral hand transplant surgery and post-surgery therapy. I even spoke about my feelings and impressions regarding what Sheila had gone through and still does while she was making faces at the audience. People lined up to meet Sheila and have their photos taken with her and Dan was peppered with questions about the Hand Transplant Program at UPMC even after we've left the room. Both made a shorter presentation on February 3rd. Mr. Kevin Carroll, the Vice-president for Prosthetics at Hanger invited me to say a few words which I kept short. What we didn't know at the time was that Harold Sears of Motion Control in Utah was in the audience. He had to leave shortly after the conference to catch his flight but we gave our cards to his colleague to let him know how much we regretted not to have met him. The Hanger Orthopedic Group's Annual Education Fair will be held in Las Vegas from January 31 to February 4, 2012. Sheila has been invited to speak on February 2nd and 3rd. This will be a great opportunity for her to share her story. |
